The weekend....was sick!

hey there everyone! This weekend was insane.  On Friday I was doing a house party gig, which was tons of fun, everybody seemed to be enjoying themselves so it made my night that much more enjoyable.  Unfortunately the party was halted halfway through due to a noise complaint...even though I was only using a 2.1 pc speaker set haha  I hope to never have to use such small powerless speakers ever again!  Gotta give a shout to HMC my mc for the night who, unfortunately could not use the microphone due to technical difficulties, almost lost all his voice yelling poor guy haha.

On Saturday I was djaying my residence's formal dance.  Lots of fun once again.  This time HMC had a real microphone and really got the crowd excited.

here are some pictures from the formal dance, unfortunately nobody was capable of taking pictures on Friday :(  HMC is wearing the funky vest, and David Kanters who featured in my song Rise is in the last picture.

All Your Base Are Belong to Us

Tonight was pretty awesome. I took part in a 6 hour gig with 5 other DJs at our university pub. The only legitimate copy of my set can be found here and it was my first practice set, I would like to believe it mostly improved from here. . .

Test Run for Weekend by dj-empe2

I can't wait to get out there and play another set! It was the most fun I've had in a while. The other DJs tore it up! I was honored to be a part of the DJ list. AND DJ AntiCitizenOne who set up the whole gig basically set it up so he would get the least exposure and all the guest DJs would get the most view time. Well surprisingly it all turned out well for everyone, especially him! As confirmed by this video AND these picture

What a great gig and a great night. Rumor is, it might become semi-regular. . .hint hint

The 2000 Fader War

So over the past few days there has been a small discussion about mixing and use of faders. I started out making this just to show you guys, but then figured I'd make it so anyone who came along could understand.

This is how I mix:

Hands on Review: Pioneer DJM-400 2 channel Mixer

The Pioneer made DJM-400 Mixer was designed as an entry-intermediate level 2 channel mixer complete with an effects processor for under $600. I know what you’re thinking, $600 isn’t something to sneeze and you’re right, there are other quality mixers out there for much less. A little more on that later…

New DJM 350 and CDJ 350 announced

Just found this, it's legit, another Pioneer unexpected release.

A few posts back I mentioned that I used my Vestax Spin with a program called Traktor Scratch Pro. Today I will be reviewing the Traktor software and giving thoughts from my own experiences of using it.

Higher and Highest mix hahaha

Made this mix after being inspired by Above & Beyond last night. more bad transitions. . .

Higher and Highest by dj-empe2

Above & Beyond @ Necto

On occasion, venues relatively close (meaning 1-3 hours away) to this cornfield of nothingness host good clubs events with names worth caring about. Last night, was one of those nights. Kenneth Thomas came to Necto in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Certainly would have been worth the money and drive to see him alone. However, in addition to his playing, Above & Beyond was headlining the show! So, let me get this straight. . . $17 to see Kenneth Thomas who was voted number one DJ in detroit AND Above & Beyond voted the number four DJs in the world. I would be crazy not to go, even if it was on a sunday night.

Vestax Spin

I recently received my Vestax Spin a few days ago. Vestax is well known for it's audio products such as the Vestax VCI-100 and VCI-300, as well as its turntables and mixers that are used by some of the biggest names in Dj music like DJ Qbert, and Mix Master Mike.

Fresh from the Dex

Amidst TONS of homework due tomorrow I forcibly made time (though I don't actually have it) to throw this mix together. It's crap but you really have to listen to even hear the second transition cause it was that good :) Enjoy!

A late start is better than no start?

So yeah...pretty much wanted to post and say what I was going to bring to this blog. My first task is I'm going make a HUGE subsection of what I went through when I started DJing. Where I fell in love with music, the where's, why's and how's. Who I talked to, why I talked to them.

I've been actually spinning with my decks for just under 3 months now. Started Jan 1, 2010 as my resolution to make a dream come true. Cheesy as hell, right? I started talking to people about DJing last August, so...there was quite a lapse there.

So if anyone thinking about DJing stumbles upon this, then know that there is NO TIME TO EARLY to start getting 'in the know'. I had about 10 good DJs willing to help me out as soon as I got my decks. Point being: Get started now rather than later, you won't regret it.

Apart from that, small Bio:
I live in Denver, CO, USA.
Been spinning 3 months
I've had 1 gig so far, on a complete luck chance
Have one coming up after that and a possibility of two raves.
I'll answer any and all questions I can.

And my latest mix.
As usual I'm not the best, but I'm trying.

here's some of my mixes.

by the way here's a cool little thing I found on the internet. It's a Youtube online mixer, it allows you to mix between two youtube videos. Pretty good to get a very beginner feel for how mixing works. You can find it here.

Let's Kick the Beat

Ok starting off here with this awesome new group blog.

My name is Fife and I'm very excited to be part this mixology group! I live in the middle of nowhere Ohio where nothing ever happens. . . I have been an avid listener of trance music for about three years and seriously DJing for about four months. I spin Trance, Progressive, and Electro with some occasional Techno and a pinch of House. I live for this music and I hope that everyone who comes to visit this page and this site can find resonance in what we love to mix. . .and before long I hope you find yourself dancing.

In the making....

Whats goin' on everyone? I'm Vtso4 from Connecticut, USA. I'll usually mix Electro/House /& Top 40 but don't be surprised if I go through some Deep House now and again. Started DJing in my bedroom March '09 and been enjoying it ever since.

Sappho

Hey guys my name's Sappho

I got into Dj'ing purely for the love of electronic music I origianally spun Hardstyle and Happy Hardcore.

However through blogs such as Earmilk and You can Call Me Pelski I found my love for all things Electro, Fidget and Dubstep.

Gigwise right now I spin at house partys and practice quite a bit in school.

I have found that most of my teachers and both of my parents have been quite unhelpful.

Annyway I have to go to English now.

Early Beginnings

Hey everyone, BMO here.

talking to you from Toronto, Canada.

It all started one evening at my university dorm, when I had absolutely nothing to do. So I just began to learn how to use a mixing program I had downloaded called Mixxx. It's absolutely free for PC/MAC. I began to realize I really enjoyed manipulating music, and I was fascinated at how well professional djs could totally change how a track sounds and feels.
